What is a Dementia Friendly Community?

A Dementia Friendly Community is a supportive and inclusive environment where individuals living with dementia are respected, understood and empowered. It fosters their confidence to engage in community life, participate in discussions and maintain control over their daily activities.

People living with dementia and their caregivers deserve to thrive in their communities. With increasing dementia diagnosis and more individuals choosing to live at home, we must enhance support for them.

Join us in championing people living with dementia and their caregivers. Together, we can build a Dementia Friendly Community.

How Can We Help Each Other?

Our initiative is dedicated to building inclusive, supportive environments for individuals, living with dementia, in their communities.

As part of this mission, we work with businesses, councils, faith groups and other organizations to raise awareness, reduce stigma and implement practical strategies that empower those living with dementia.

We offer free dementia training and awareness sessions that could benefit your staff, your customers or service users, and the wider community. We can provide your team with training to better support individuals living with dementia.

Our Education Framework

Our education is tailored to your team’s schedule, and we will coordinate the best time to maximise the number of staff that can attend. This ensures your employees gain practical skills for interacting with those living with dementia.

Both of these choices come at no cost to either businesses or those participating in the training.

Dementia Friendly Education
A training session delivered at your workplace to equip staff with a greater awareness and confidence in supporting individuals living with dementia.

Dementia Friendly Supporter Program
This program begins with an agreement outlining your commitment as a Dementia Friendly Supporter. We will work with you to schedule training for your staff and after completion by at least 75% of relevant staff, your organization will receive an Alzheimer Society decal to display at your workplace or website. This showcases your commitment as a Dementia Friendly Supporter. Annually our Society will visit to review your needs for additional training or support and discuss your staff’s experiences.
